The Valknut, also known as the shieldknot or knot of the slain, is a symbol that has come to be associated with the god Odhinn in recent history. This symbol of Odhinn is only worn by those who are dedicated to him or are very close to him, after giving the matter very serious consideration. Odhinn's way is generally not the easy way. Anyone who is drawn to this symbol but is not yet one of Odhinn's would do well to read more about him in the Norse mythological texts. The links page lists a few Asatru Kindreds, any of their websites will have more information on recommended reading.
My own experience and reason that I wear a Valknut is a bit different. On the main page (towards the bottom- I skipped the part in the html tutorial where they tell you how to link to a specific part of a page) is a brief account of the vision I had of Odhinn handing me a large Valknut. This was after I'd been studying the runes and found the Asatru faith, but I had not dedicated myself to Odhinn. One of the things I understood from this vision is that I should be wearing a Valknut.
Each side of the three interlocking triangles which make up the Valknut, a total of nine sides, relate to the nine worlds of Norse mythology. Valknuts are generally made in two forms, the unicursal which is an unbroken line symbolically showing all three triangles, and the variety which has three separate but interlocking triangles. Both are equally powerful.
